Where it Started
I hit a point where I felt stuck in my own life. Nature gave me space to breathe, and conversation gave me the clarity I was missing. I figured, if I brought people into that space, no studio, no script, just the trail and whatever came up, something real would happen. And it did.
How it Works
Every episode of Way Off Voices starts the same way, WE HIKE.
No studios. No fancy sets. Just me, my guest, and the trail. We pick a hike closest to our guest, usually in a National Forest or National Park and walk side-by-side while the conversation flows. Sometimes it’s deep, sometimes it’s goofy, but it’s always real.
We talk about life, identity, healing, the weight people carry, views, being viewed, and the things you’ve heard them never said out loud. Being out there, away from phones, expectations, and all the noise — makes space for honesty. No distractions. No edits. Just the truth, in motion.
Why It Matters
This podcast is where you get to see the real side of the people you follow. No walls, no spotlights, no social media filters — just raw emotion, open conversation, and nature doing what it does best: grounding us. These hikes peel back the layers and shows our roots. It’s vulnerability in motion. It’s Fun. It’s real.
The Trail Offering
So here’s where things get interesting…
At the start of every hike, I give my guest something pretty simple: a piece of biodegradable paper. It’s not fancy. But here’s the catch: they’re asked to write down something that’s been weighing them down. It could be anything — an unspoken truth, an old regret, or maybe something they just need to let go of.
They carry it with them the whole hike. And when we get to a certain spot — typically, a stunning view, like a waterfall or a mountain peak — they release it. They rip it, they bury it, or let it float away in the wind. And it’s symbolic: they’re letting go of whatever’s been holding them back.
It’s a small act, but it’s big. Because those moments? They’re a way to really leave the baggage behind and start fresh. And the best part? It’s all captured on film, so you get to see the magic unfold.
If you think that sounds like something, just wait until you see the next episode. It’s one of those moments where the air feels lighter, and the conversations get real.
